An Ongoing Adventure!

May 5th, 2011

December 2010, I had the honour of participating in my high school's Christmas programme and doing a reading from Morning Glory.  Wonderful to be in front of my "family" and share poetry that was inspired greatly from my time at St. Andrews.

February, 2011, I returned home to Kingston to participate in a fun "Poetry Jam" with a local bookstore called Bookophilia.  I was one of several authors and poets who shared their heart with a responsive and attentive audience!

Today, I spoke to my local library about being on their calendar for next year.  Yeah!

Having the feeling to create a companion pocketbook for Morning Glory.  Maybe one with quotes and the shorter reflections, a 365 day beside book, prayers... Hmmm.  We'll see where spirit and I end up!

Today, I shared A Taste of Morning Glory with a lovely, local women's group.  So receptive and so open and such a fitting setting up in the mountains with a glorious tranquil lake in the background.  Perfect too that my children were along for the ride, experiencing first-hand the delightful journey that we are all on with this book!

The women seemed to respond to the sense of grace in a person's life... grace that sometimes comes in spite of ourselves.  Responding to the invitation to be real and to shine our lights brightly, as there are lives waiting for us to show up.

Nice how the ages spanned generations.  Nice how eyes were brightly reflecting love and awareness.  Nice how easy it was to feel a sense of community with people I had never met before today.

In a few weeks, I will share again in my birth home, Jamaica.

We had our first official Morning Glory event last week and it was the sweetest experience ever!

Back in June when the book first came out, my girlfriend told me that I had to do a book-signing.  My initial response was one of surprise, quickly followed by a mixture of insecurity and excitement.  Old stuff came up about whether or not anyone would want what Morning Glory and I had to offer.  Whether or not people would just walk past our symbolic table and stick their noses up in the air, passing us by!  Jeez!

Sooner or later, I eventually came back to my joy at Morning Glory being here and my feeling of "Let's just celebrate this baby y'all!"  I remembered my feeling when I was pregnant with my two children.  Recalled the desire to share the occasion with my loved ones.   We had a blessing.  Friends and family came, sharing their thoughts, wishes and prayers.  It all became part of our family experience.  Many of you recorded your offerings on coloured squares of paper... Papers filled with love which went together to make a beautiful poster for our family.  Still graces our kitchen walls.  Still holds a special place in my heart.

I remembered all of this, as I drove to where we were going to have our first launch / celebration.  I had a little bit of a nervous feeling inside and I quickly focused my attention on the gorgeous flowers in bloom, the movement of the trees and the numerous dancing butterflies in the air.  I settled down and eased into the peace of now.  Kind of how it was when Morning Glory got written...

I had a few things jotted down to share for our local North Carolina launch.  I had a strong sense that we would all be better served that morning, for me to be in feel and to go with the flow of the moment. Nothing rehearsed or pre-written... just a few guiding pointers and open for the rest.  I did and we did!  Everything unfolded beautifully like life is meant to.  The mixture of friends was lovely, as was your attention, your questions and the sweet mood that we created together.

This experience has the feeling of where Morning Glory is going.  It feels like it is opening to be more than a physical book.  It is the sharing of all that Morning Glory symbolises for me.  A precious way of greeting the day... of opening to the Divine and of opening to your own self and your heart.

I love that you are here with me on this great adventure!  I love that this weaves in and out of everything else in my life.  Nothing is separate.  Connection is everywhere.

Love always,

   Nicola

Being Checked Out!
By Nicola Karesh | August 18, 2010 at 02:37 PM EDT | No Comments

I was at the library with my two children and unbeknownst to me, they were looking up Morning Glory in the library's computer system.  I had donated a copy as a fellow author had suggested, but wasn't holding my breath as to what would come of it being there!

My daughter called out that Morning Glory had already been checked out 3 times and was off for its 4th expedition!  Woo hoo!  I started laughing with delight as I just thought that was the coolest and most unexpected thing!  The librarian said that she indeed had seen it pass through a few times and had it on her "To Read" list.  It had been suggested by her friend!

The same girlfriend later called me about coming to a book launch / celebration.  I remarked that I was really happy that the book had been borrowed, as I had thought that maybe it might just be poked away in some corner gathering dust and cobwebs! Her response was precious to me...

"Oh no my dear.  This book has too much energy to stay on a shelf!"

Little Miss Morning Glory making her way out into the wide, beautiful, open world!
